Breathing Life into Workshop Environments
Our state-of-the-art air filtration products are designed to protect and enhance the health and efficiency of every workshop environment.
Intro
Workshops, whether a high-precision fabrication studio, a bustling production line, or a large-scale industrial operation, are united by a common thread – they are hubs of activity where concepts and materials are transformed into tangible products.
However, something else connects these facilities: the generation of airborne contaminants. These include volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from solvents, adhesives, paints, and cleaning agents; particulate matter from sanding, grinding, and cutting; welding and soldering fumes containing toxic metals and gases; dust and debris from various operations; and carbon monoxide from fuel-burning equipment.
Failing to comply with health and safety regulations regarding workplace air quality can have severe consequences.
For instance, in 2017, an employee of a delivery company sued the business after discovering they had developed asthma. The employee acquired the disease after spending years exposed to diesel exhaust pollution.
According to a study by St George’s University of London, Nottingham University and Imperial College London, asthma kills roughly 1,200 people in the UK yearly. This is an unacceptable number. That’s why iXtract offers tailored air purification products engineered to effectively manage and maintain air quality, ensuring a healthy and safe environment across all scales of workshop operations.
Through iXtract’s purification technologies, those who shape, build, and innovate can do so in an atmosphere where health and safety are top priorities. Our extraction products, for instance, are tailored for industrial utilisation and can remove up to 99.9% of particulate matter. Using HEPA filter technology, they can also filter particles as small as 0.3 microns.
Particulates
Woodworking shavings, metal grinding dust, paint aerosols and fumes from welding. The threats present in a workshop are as diverse as the activities taking place in these facilities that are crucial to the world’s economy. Several factors can transform a productive workshop into a trap for those who work or visit the premises, endangering their health and the quality of what is being produced. iXtract’s innovative products capture and neutralise these particulates, ensuring a safe, clean and efficient workplace. Our approach is based on ensuring compliance with legislation and caring for the people, your most valuable assets.
Fume
Fumes in workshops, particularly those that involve metalworking, welding, or the use of chemicals, are a significant concern. They consist of tiny solid particles that form when materials are heated and vapourised. Common in welding and metal fabrication, these fumes can contain various metals and chemical compounds.
Exposure to these gases can pose serious health risks, including respiratory problems, metal fume fever, and long-term risks such as lung disease and certain types of cancer. This makes effective fume extraction and air filtration systems crucial. iXtract's products are designed to capture fumes at their source, preventing them from dispersing into the air and being inhaled by workers, thereby creating a safer and healthier working environment.
Dust
Dust comprises tiny solid particles that arise from cutting, sanding, or grinding various materials. The size and composition of these dust particles vary, but they often include wood fibres, metal shavings, plastic particles, and other byproducts.
The most common health risks associated with workshop dust include respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and, in some cases, severe conditions like lung diseases or certain cancers, mainly when dealing with toxic materials like asbestos or specific types of wood and metal.
iXtract's approach involves a combination of proper ventilation and the installation of dust extraction systems utilising our products.
Maintaining a clean and dust-free workshop environment not only ensures the health and safety of workers but also enhances overall operational efficiency.
Liquid
As part of its holistic approach to enhancing air quality, iXtract also develops solutions to manage liquids. It may sound unconventional, since fluids are not considered particulates, but specific workshop processes can generate droplets from liquids. For example, operations like spray painting, applying coatings, or even certain types of drilling and milling can create aerosols, which are tiny liquid or solid particles suspended in the air. When formed from fluids, these aerosols can behave similarly to particulates regarding their potential to be inhaled and resulting health impacts. Therefore, while liquids are not particulates in a strict sense, processes involving liquids can lead to the generation of particulate-like substances in the form of aerosols.
